'Say No To Tesco' Nottinghamshire NA have kicked off a campaign in an attempt to stop Tesco building a massive new store in the small market town of Worksop in Nottinghamshire. The supermarket giants plan to build a huge new store and filling station on a green area in the town, but many of the local residents are already up-in-arms at the proposal for the following reasons: TRAFFIC The increase in traffic will cause total and utter chaos in the near vicinity and beyond resulting in traffic jams, confusion and delays, not to mention putting the lives of pedestrians, including the many young children in the area in jeopardy. The main surrounding roads are already massively congested, let’s not add to this! GREEN The old Maltkins site and the park area are ‘green spots’ which are both physically and mentally stimulating, not only for the neighbourhood but for the whole town. Pleasant areas of repose and aesthetic beauty create good morale. Of course, if the Tesco plans go ahead these areas will be ruthlessly torn down, and without them the area risks plunging into decay and depression. LOCAL TRADE Large supermarkets such as Tesco are systematically taking away business from small, local shops; such small shops are closing at a vast rate due to large corporations dominating the entire market. Nobody wishes to see Worksop, or anywhere for that matter turn into a ‘ghost town’ with no traditional, family and locally orientated businesses left.
The lovely parkland with fields behind, all of which will be ruthlessly tore down if Tesco get the go ahead for their new 'supermarket' If you think you can help out in this campaign just email the Nottinghamshire organiser on nottingham@allnationalist.com 23.09.06 |
